Join us at Culinary EmpowHERment, an uplifting brunch dedicated to celebrating and empowering women in the culinary and hospitality industry. We’re bringing together some of foremost women in food and beverage to spotlight their diverse talents and contributions to the culinary landscape—as chefs, mixologists, sommeliers, winemakers, food media professionals and more. In partnership with the James Beard Foundation® (JBF) through the Friends of James Beard Benefit® series, all proceeds from this event will benefit JBF’s Women’s Entrepreneurial Leadership (WEL) program and support the initiative to provide advanced educational, training, and networking opportunities for women who own or co-own brick-and-mortar food and beverage businesses across the United States.
The morning begins with a thought-provoking panel discussion moderated by award-winning chef and founding partner & president of Morph Hospitality Group, Maneet Chauhan, alongside prominent women who are not only breaking the kitchen door, but leading the industry as advocates, entrepreneurs, bar owners, restaurateurs and policy makers. Our panelists, chefs Reem Assil, Elizabeth Falkner, Jackie Lau and Anita Lo—joined by celebrated mixologist and bar owner, Julie Reiner—share their stories, insights and challenges faced from behind the line as they discuss breaking barriers, forging paths in male-dominated industries and offer glimpses into the future for women in culinary and beverage.
Following the panel, you’ll enjoy a walk-around brunch of unique creations from notable female chefs, including our panelists. Gain insight into their culinary innovations and inspirations as you sample their delectable dishes. They’ll be joined by the talented women behind the bar, shaking up the industry with every cocktail they craft. Don’t miss this beautiful day of networking, connection and community. MALAMA AINA PARTNER
Spend the day learning about Heeia Fishpond’s rich history, unique aquaculture, marine species and significance to the local community. Support with preservation efforts by redistributing rock and coral, placing floating barges, removing trash, invasive mangrove and limu (seaweed) and helping to reconstruct the kuapa (fishpond wall).
