Sly Fox Den - Mashpee, MA

Sherry Pocknett is an indigenous chef & educator, specializing in The Bounty of the Season, Native American indigenous food and New England cooking. Wampanoag Chef and Entrepreneur, Pocknett, born and raised in Mashpee to the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe, credits her love and passion for food and educating to her parents Bernadine and Vernon Pocknett — a mother from many great chefs famous for indigenous foods and a father who taught her how to hunt, fish, forage, and barter. Growing up in the 60s, both parents were traditional and lived their life-ways as Wampanoag people throughout the bounty of the season. Pocknett at an early age started cooking and catering, starting the Sly Fox Den Catering business, and soon was up and down the East Coast food vending traditional Wampanoag food. She also started a weekly youth cultural class to educate about seasonality the Wampanoag way. The best way to teach is hands-on with kids, young adults, and even parents; they sometimes got up to 100 kids in the class and special events. Sly Fox Den got popular real fast and soon had a great demand for indigenous food and education up and down the East Coast, catering and educating at schools, universities, and museums, always with a story to tell when it comes to food. Sherry Pocknett now owns her own restaurant, The Sly Fox Den Restaurant & Bar, and is currently trying to get it opened after the pandemic. She has the Sly Fox Den Food Truck on the premises of the restaurant.
