
Senator Ron Kouchi

Senate President Ronald D. Kouchi is a proud husband, father and the great great grandson of a Portuguese national from Sao Miguel, Azores, Portugal arrived in Hawaii in 1883 aboard the S.S. Bell Rock to start her family.
He was appointed to the Hawaii State Senate in September 2010 and chosen by his colleagues to be the Senate President in 2015. Since being Senate President, and with his fellow Representatives on Kauai, they have delivered $1.1 billion to aggressively move to ensure financial sustainability, enable future growth, and making Kauai, a place future generations choose to call home. Prior to becoming Senate President, he served as Vice Chair to the Senate Committees on Tourism, Agriculture and Ways and Means. Senator Kouchi also served as Majority Caucus Leader and Senate Vice President. Kouchi also served 11 terms, 22 years on the Kauai County Council and served 12 years as chair of the Kauai County Council.
Senate President and his wife, the former Joy Tanimoto, have two sons, Dan and Egan Kouchi.
