Keiki Can Submit a Healthy, Original Recipe with Local Ingredients August 19 to September 13, 2019

HONOLULU, HI (August 19, 2019)—Hawai‘i Food & Wine Festival (HFWF) is taking submissions for its annual Hawai‘i Gas Presents Localicious® Recipe Contest. Now through September 13, 2019, keiki can submit a healthy, original recipe that includes locally-grown ingredients.

Open to students in grades 4-12, the contest will screen submitted recipes in two age groups by a committee of chefs. The top three finalists from each age category will earn invitations to cook live for a panel of judges.

Inspiring the next generation of chefs, the final cook-off will take place at the HMAA Presents Keiki in the Kitchen® Family Sunday in Honolulu on October 27, 2019, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., at Victoria Ward Park.

“Each year, we are blown away by the young talent that participates in the Hawai‘i Gas Localicious® Recipe Contest,” said Denise Yamaguchi, CEO of Hawai‘i Food & Wine Festival. “When Roy, Alan and I started HFWF, one of the key objectives of the mission was to inspire future generations of chefs, farmers, entrepreneurs and more. This contest is the direct outcome of that goal, and we’re thrilled that it continues to be a success.”

The grand prizes for each age group include a two-night stay at Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa. For grades 9-12, finalists will have an opportunity to win $500 cash scholarship.

“Every year, we are amazed by the creativity and talent of keiki chefs as they cook with gas to turn local ingredients into delicious masterpieces,” said Aaron Kirk, Hawai‘i Gas vice president, marketing and business development. “Hawai‘i Gas is proud to support the next generation of culinary leaders in our community.”
