HONOLULU, HI (July 19, 2019)—Hawai‘i Food & Wine Festival (HFWF) celebrates its ninth year with two free kid-friendly Family Sunday events on Maui and O‘ahu with food, fitness and fun.
On Sunday, October 20, 2019, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Whalers Village Presents Keiki in the Kitchen® Kāʻanapali will take place at Whalers Village at Kāʻanapali. HMAA Presents Keiki in the Kitchen® Family Sunday in Honolulu on October 27, 2019, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., at Victoria Ward Park.
“We are proud to bring Keiki in the Kitchen® back as one of the highlights of the Festival on Maui and O‘ahu,” said Denise Yamaguchi, CEO of Hawai‘i Food & Wine Festival. “This free community event is especially meaningful to Roy, Alan and me as it provides keiki of all ages the opportunity to be inspired by celebrity chefs, farmers and others who contribute to helping Hawaii create sustainable food systems for our islands. Through fun activities, keiki will learn where their food comes from and why it’s important to support local agriculture.”

Cupcake Decorating with Duff Goldman of Food Network’s “Ace of Cakes” ($10) – Chef Duff Goldman will share his “tricks of the trade” with a special cupcake decorating activity where children will decorate their own spooky Halloween-inspired cupcake with lots of frosting, candy and sprinkles.
Treat Street – Free safe trick-or-treating where children, ages 10 and under, can visit participating retailers to receive individually-wrapped snacks and candy. Parents should register children in advance to receive a reusable canvas Treat Street bag (quantities limited).
Hawai‘i Food & Wine Festival Chefs Autograph Booth – Opportunity for children to grab chef autographs and photos.
Coconut demonstration and weaving – Make and take activity for children to create special items from the fronds of the coconut tree.
Garden & Grow – Maui County Farm Bureau will lead interactive and educational succulent planting activities for the whole family to enjoy by teaching children about gardening and plant care.
Fitness Challenge: Boot Camp with Hawai‘i Food & Wine Festival Chefs – Children can show off their skills with a fitness showdown with chefs with fun games. Prizes will be awarded to the fittest winners.

Cupcake Decorating with Buddy Valastro of TLC’s “Cake Boss” ($10) – Chef Buddy Valastro will share top-secret decorating tips with children during a special cupcake decorating activity where children will decorate their own spooky Halloween-inspired cupcake completed with frosting, candy and sprinkles.
Treat Street – Created by the UH School of Architecture, Treat Street, offers children a safe trick-or-treat activity inspired by “Dia de los Muertos.” With their special trick-or-treat bag, they will receive individually-wrapped snacks and candy as they visit 15 “houses” around the street. Costumes are encouraged, and parents should register children in advance to receive the reusable canvas Treat Street bag (quantities limited).
Hawai‘i Gas Presents Localicious Recipe Contest – Six semi-finalists (three from the 2 age groups) will cook their original, healthy recipe featuring local ingredients for a panel of three judges. One contestant from each category will be selected as the Localicious Recipe Contest Winner. Recipe contest entry dates August 19 – September 13.
La Tour Bakehouse Presents Keiki Cooking Classes ($30) – Children can join La Tour Bakehouse’s Executive Chef Rodney Weddle to learn how to make assorted Halloween sandwiches featuring La Tour Bread and decorate their signature filled macaron for a spooky treat.
Zippy’s Presents Made in Hawaiʻi Marketplace for Kids by Kids – Local high school students will create and sell professionally packaged products developed in their classrooms using locally grown, raised, or caught products. Funds raised from the sale will go back directly to the culinary and natural resources programs at each school.
The Queen’s Health Center Fitness Challenge with Hawai‘i Food & Wine Festival Chefs & Fitness Guru Corey Campbell – Children can show off their skills with a fitness showdown with chefs with fun games. Prizes will be awarded to the fittest winners.

Plus, live entertainment by Eden Kai, the “Best of Eat The Street” food concessions curated by Eat The Street and interactive booths by HMAA, 7- Eleven, King’s Hawaiian, Ben Franklin Arts & Crafts and more.
