Representative Nadine Nakamura

Speaker of the House of Representatives - Honolulu, HI

Speaker Nadine K. Nakamura represents House District 15, serving the Kauai communities of Hanalei, Princeville, Kilauea, Anahola, Kapaa, and Wailua. A lifelong advocate for thoughtful planning and community-centered development, she brings decades of leadership experience in public service, government administration, and private enterprise.

Prior to her tenure in the Hawaii State House of Representatives, Speaker Nakamura served as Managing Director for the County of Kauai and was elected to the Kauai County Council in 2010 and 2012. Before entering elected office, she founded and operated NKN Project Planning for more than twenty years, providing strategic planning services across the public, private, and nonprofit sectors.

Speaker Nakamura earned a Bachelor of Science in Public Affairs and Urban Planning from the University of Southern California and a Master’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. She made history as the first Asian American woman to serve as House Speaker in the United States, reflecting her longstanding commitment to leadership, representation, and public service.
