Celebrity Chef Katie Chin is an award-winning cookbook author, caterer, playwright, and Culinary Ambassador to the National Pediatric Cancer Foundation (NPCF). Raised in the kitchens of her late mother Leeann Chin’s acclaimed Minneapolis-area restaurants, Katie Chin eventually returned to her culinary roots after an early career in film and television marketing.
Chin co-hosted the PBS cooking series Double Happiness with her mother and co-authored Everyday Chinese Cooking. She later authored several successful cookbooks, including 300 Best Rice Cooker Recipes, Everyday Thai Cooking, Everyday Chinese Cookbook: 101 Delicious Recipes from My Mother’s Kitchen, and Katie Chin’s Global Family Cookbook. Her work has been featured in Forbes, O Magazine, Bon Appétit, Cooking Light, Elle, Real Simple, Epicurious, and The Wall Street Journal.
A familiar face on television, Chin has appeared on The Kelly Clarkson Show, Live with Kelly & Mark, The Today Show, The Real, Cooking Channel, and as a guest judge on Iron Chef America. She has also competed on Cutthroat Kitchen, Beat Bobby Flay, Supermarket Stakeout, Battle of the Decades, and Chopped. In 2013, she was a featured chef at the White House Easter Egg Roll under the Obama administration.
Chin has also earned acclaim as a playwright and performer through her autobiographical one-woman show, Holy Shiitake: A Wok Star is Born. The production debuted in Minneapolis in 2023 and has since enjoyed multiple sold-out performances in Los Angeles, Honolulu, Atlanta, San Francisco, Garden Grove, and the Twin Cities. The show received Whitefire Theatre’s prestigious “Solo Fest Best of Fest” Official Selection honor and continues to expand to new cities. In July 2025, Chin delivered a TEDxFargo Talk titled “Dumplings Released My Demons: How Food Can Heal Generational Trauma.”
Beyond the culinary and entertainment worlds, Chin is deeply involved in philanthropy and community leadership. She serves as co-chair of Mayor Karen Bass’ AAPI LA Task Force and sits on the boards of TeachAAPI and the SheAngels Foundation. She also serves as the Southwest Regional Ambassador for Women’s Entrepreneurship Day and is a member of Food Forward’s Culinary Council. Her advocacy and community work have earned recognition from the City of Los Angeles, Congresswoman Sidney Kamlager, and numerous community organizations.
In June 2025, Katie Chin was appointed by Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass to the Board of City Tourism Commissioners.
