The Local General Store - Honolulu, HI

Harley Chow is co-owner of The Local General Store in Kaimuki, alongside her husband Jason Chow. The Local General Store is part butchery, part bakery, and part market – specializing in whole carcass sourcing from Hawaii’s farmers and ranchers, and every bakery item features at least one locally grown ingredient.

A two-time James Beard Award Semifinalist for Outstanding Bakery in 2025 and 2026, The Local General Store has earned national recognition for its commitment to craft and community. At its core, the business is built on paying fair prices to local farmers and ranchers—a deliberate choice that reflects The Local General Store’s belief that small businesses can thrive while placing sustainability and community above convenience.

Making everything from scratch and sourcing locally isn’t easy. It costs more. It takes longer. But for The Local General Store, local food accessibility and resilience  are values worth fighting for.
