Alex (Tien En) Peng, a member of the Rukai tribe from Taiwan has over 20 years of experience in the culinary industry. After training in Chinese, Western, and French cuisines, he returned to his hometown in 2015 to open AKAME restaurant. “AKAME” means “grill” in the Rukai language. The restaurant centers on wood-fired barbecue dishes, using 100% Taiwanese ingredients infused with traditional tribal spices and wild herbs to create a unique spirit of innovative indigenous cuisine. It aims not only to draw people from around the world into the tribe to learn about it through food, but also to promote Taiwan’s indigenous traditional ingredients and sustainably pass them on.
