Alex Kim is the Chef & Culinary Director at Five Sails and Glowbal Group in Vancouver, British Columbia. Winner of the 2025 Canadian Culinary Championship and a finalist on Season 12 of Top Chef Canada, Kim is recognized for his refined, ingredient-driven approach to Pacific Northwest cuisine.
Born in South Korea and raised in a farming family, Kim developed a deep respect for seasonality and ingredient integrity through firsthand farm-to-table experiences from an early age. Today, his cooking reflects both his Korean heritage and the Pacific Northwest region he now calls home.
What makes Kim’s culinary perspective unique is how he bridges Korean culinary traditions with a strong focus on the terroir of the Canadian Pacific Northwest and elevated culinary technique. He creates and uses traditional Korean fermented condiments, known as jang, as foundational elements in his cooking adding depth, enhancing umami, and telling a story that connects the Pacific Northwest with his Korean-Canadian identity.
