HONOLULU, HI (August 26, 2019)—The ninth annual Hawai‘i Food & Wine Festival (HFWF) will host the Island of Hawai‘i event, From Portugal to Spain: An Iberian Feast, on October 5, 2019, from 6-9:30 p.m. at Waikoloa Beach Marriott Resort & Spa.

The elegant six-course meal will be prepared by six culinary masters inspired by Spanish and Portuguese cuisines. Each dish will be paired with sophisticated wines provided by Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits of Hawaii. A VIP cocktail reception will begin at 5 p.m.

“We are honored and excited to launch the ninth year of Hawai‘i Food and Wine Festival on the Island of Hawaiʻi,” says Steve Yannarell, General Manager of Waikoloa Beach Marriott Resort & Spa. “The theme this year is significant as it was inspired by the history of Portuguese and Spanish immigrants that traveled to Hawai‘i, ultimately influencing our culture and culinary traditions.”

Featured Chefs, From Portugal to Spain: An Iberian Feast

  • Antelmo Faria, Uma Casa
  • Jose Garces, The Garces Group
  • Jayson Kanekoa, Waikaloa Beach Marriot Resort & Spa

  • George Mendes, Aldea

“The Portuguese were the second immigrants that came to Hawai‘i during our plantation history, yet, we know very little about their authentic cuisine,” said Alan Wong, co-chair of Hawai‘i Food & Wine Festival. “We know about malasadas, but I don’t think our local Portuguese bean soup is a dish we would find if we went to Portugal. I am looking forward to learning more about this great cuisine at this Hawai‘i Food & Wine Festival event.”

The Festival celebrates the bounty of locally caught, grown and raised ingredients by inviting local and international culinary talent to create dishes from a list of 100 local products. Co-founded by two of Hawai‘i’s own James Beard award-winning chefs, Roy Yamaguchi and Alan Wong, HFWF19 will attract more than 120 world-class chefs, 40 winemakers and 25 mixologists.

Tickets to From Portugal to Spain: An Iberian Feast are $275 per person inclusive of taxes and fees, available at www.HFWF.me.
