Tony Abou-Ganim is celebrated as one of the foremost bar professionals globally, currently lending his expertise to Royal Caribbean Cruise lines as a beverage consultant, focusing on innovative drink programs for their newest ships.
Renowned for his pioneering contributions, Tony has appeared on numerous national TV programs such as TODAY, Iron Chef America, Good Morning America, CNBC, and Fox News. He is also a three-time champion of Iron Chef America, showcasing his expertise in pairing cocktails with top culinary talents like Iron Chef Mario Batali, Iron Chef Jose Garces, and challenger Chef Shawn McClain.
He authored “The Modern Mixologist: Contemporary Classic Cocktails” (Agate, 2010) and “Vodka Distilled,” (Agate, 2013), authoritative explorations of spirits and ingredients for both amateurs and professionals. Tony’s hosting of the Fine Living series “Raising the Bar: America’s Best Bar Chefs” further highlights his influence. He also hosts virtual events titled “Making Great Cocktails at Home,” where he features his personally designed bar tool line.
Tony’s journey in mixology began under the tutelage of his cousin Helen David at Michigan’s Brass Rail Bar, where he learned the art of classic cocktails. His career advanced at establishments like Jack Slick’s Balboa Café, Harry Denton’s in San Francisco, and the reopening of The Starlight Room with Harry Denton in 1995. He has also been involved with Boz Scaggs’ Bluelight Cafe.
In 1998, Tony was selected by Steve Wynn to craft the cocktail program for Bellagio Las Vegas, introducing his philosophy of quality ingredients and technique across the resort’s 22 bars. His accolades include winning the Bacardi Martini World Grand Prix in 2002.
Tony continues to innovate, collaborating with venues such as Caesars Palace,
Oracle Arena, T-Mobile Arena (home of the Vegas Golden Knights), Allegiant Stadium (home of the Las Vegas Raiders), and Mandalay Bay’s Libertine Social. He also works with Highlands Steakhouse, Hearth 71, and the High Bar in Detroit’s Renaissance Center. Tony, a partner at Libertine and Highlands, also collaborates with Levy Restaurants on various venues’ drink programs and bar training.
As a National Ambassador of the U.S. Bartenders Guild, Tony remains dedicated to cocktail education. His consulting firm specializes in bar staff training, product education, and cocktail development. He can be seen presenting at prestigious events such as Hawaii F&W, Aspen F&W, Cayman Cookout, RELISH Newport Beach, and Paradise Island F&W, among others.
