Pastry chef Rachel Alvarado is best known for desserts that feature bold flavor combinations and savory touches. She currently manages the b. Patisserie pastry team for Kona Coffee Purveyors in Waikīkī and consults for local special events, private parties, celebrations and award-winning restaurants.
Her most recent event was the 2017 Sony Open 20th Anniversary Gala Dinner, where she worked alongside chefs Alan Wong and Roy Yamaguchi. Her desserts have been featured in Condé Nast, Plate Magazine, and the Cooking Channel’s Unique Sweets. She has staged at Coi, a Michelin three-star restaurant in San Francisco.
Born and raised in Honolulu, Alvarado earned her degrees in culinary and patisserie arts at the Culinary Institute of the Pacific at Kapiolani Community College. In 2007, she joined the opening pastry team at Nobu Waikiki, where she worked her way up to pastry chef and began creating dessert menus with local Asian flair. Her reputation in Hawaii as an innovative chef quickly escalated, leading to her position as the opening executive pastry chef at the exclusive Vintage Cave Honolulu in 2012. In 2014, Rachel joined chef Andrew Le at The Pig & The Lady and implemented an interactive dessert bar featuring Vietnamese-inspired plated desserts and a seasonal soft-serve program.
