Chef Kevin Nakata oversees all food and beverage operations at the Hawaii Convention Center, ensuring a world-class meeting and convention experience for all of the center’s local, U.S. mainland, and international guests through cuisine.
As executive chef, besides overseeing service of meals for up to 2,500 people, Nakata is responsible for the training and management of the Hawaii Convention Center’s esteemed culinary team.
He brings more than 21 years of culinary experience to the Hawaii Convention Center, having previously served in executive chef positions at some of the finest restaurants and establishments on Kauai, Maui, and Oahu, including executive sous chef at The Royal Hawaiian Hotel where he oversaw the food and beverage operations on-property including the Surf Lanai, Mai Tai Bar, as well as banquet events. While working at The Royal Hawaiian, Nakata successfully organized and managed the production and service of food and beverage for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leaders’ Meeting events in 2011.
Born and raised in Hawaii, Nakata earned an associate’s degree in culinary arts from Kapiolani Community College.
