The executive chef of Star Noodle Abby Ferer just happens to be a native New Yorker who also lived in Hong Kong as a child. Growing up in a large Filipino family—which means lots of eating, cooking and having a great time—is where her love for food, travel, and culture began.
Ferrer started her culinary career at 16, working alongside her mother in the family’s Filipino store. While finishing her degree in Hospitality Management at the New York City College of Technology, Ferrer participated in American Culinary Federation culinary competitions and working in the kitchens of The Russian Tea Room, Pazo, and AZ. After graduation, Ferrer ventured to Los Angeles, where she worked for the Patina Group, then eventually moved to Las Vegas, where she worked as a sous chef at MGM Grand’s Fiamma.
Ferrer was also a lead chef instructor at Le Cordon Bleu Boston, mentoring and coaching students and instructors alike while earning her Master’s Degree in Education from Northeastern University. In 2013, she accepted the position of sous chef as part of the opening team for Masaharu Morimoto’s Maui restaurant. One year later, Chef Morimoto asked her to relocate to Miami. However, Ferrer’s love of Maui brought her back in 2015 to work for Tommy Bahama as their executive sous chef.
In 2017, Ferrer joined Star Noodle, where she takes inspiration from her childhood memories and presents food that draws on her experiences with Filipino, French, Italian and Asian cuisine in a supportive, collaborative and progressive environment.
