A traditional Hawaiian band that features Mele from the 70’s and 80’s “Renaissance” period of Hawaiian music, Puuloa has been performing for over 20 years since high school, where they studied Hawaiian language, Hawaiian studies, and performing arts under the direction of Kumu Peter Lonoaeʻa at James Campbell High School in Ewa Beach. Puuloa is the traditional place name for Ewa Beach, and since all three members are from that district, it is fitting that their band is named after their home town.
Puuloa features three best friends – Brandon Noeau Serrano, Andrew Kona Purdy & Christian Kalikiano Legaspi. The band draws inspiration from The Brothers Cazimero, Luciano Pavarotti, and Aerosmith.
Puuloa has performed on Pakele Live, The KSSK Perry & Price Morning Show, Channel 2 News, Aloha Festivals Waikiki Parade, The Monarch Room at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel, and many others. The band competed in Battle of the Brunch & Bass at Hawaii Food & Wine Festival on October 30, 2016 against The Waimanalo Sunset Band and took home the grand prize – a one-month paid contract to perform at Kani Ka Pila Grille located in the Outrigger Reef Waikiki Beach Resort. They are returning this year at Food Fight & Bloody Marys at Hawaii Food & Wine Festival on November 5, 2017. Will they be able to reign their championship two years in a row?
