Melissa Bow grew up in Hawaii and left to live in New York City for the food, fashion, art and to practice her degree in physical therapy. But, cooking has always been near and dear; when she was five the best dreams were of the perfect cheeseburger. After New York she moved back to Hawaii to live a warmer, happier life making gelato and sorbetto tailored to Island tastes which she named Via Gelato.
Via Gelato (literally translated to street gelato) is a buttercream yellow truck that serves artisanal small batch gelato with flavors based on locally inspired tastes and locally grown produce. The flavors take inspiration from Melissa’s experiences from NYC and fuses them with the flavors of familiar local desserts or even local savory foods. Via Gelato makes ice cream that tug on the heartstrings of the familiar while offering a new perspective.
