A native of Mexico City, Chef Arturo Silva was raised by his mother and two older brothers. As the youngest of three, Chef Silva spent a lot of his time by his mother, Josefina’s side in the kitchen. He grew an addiction to being in the kitchen through the countless days of pressing tortillas, prepping fresh vegetables for salsa and later making his family’s secret recipe mole sauce.
At the age of seventeen, he had his first restaurant job in Arizona, where he lived for seven years. His passion for cooking grew each day and by watching other chefs, he became inspired to add new flavors and techniques to his repertoire.
His career as a chef has taken him throughout the country, working in kitchens in Boston, New York City, Las Vegas, California, and now Honolulu. As the opening Chef of Buho Cocina y Cantina, Chef Silva went back to his roots of Mexican cuisine while incorporating modern techniques with the freshest local ingredients. He also ensures there is a lot of love in his cooking, which his mother taught him is the secret ingredient to creating delicious food.
